History of the Bell Tower
The history of the Bell Tower at Purdue University begins with the fire of (1894). The fire arose from a boiler explosion; which also completely destroyed Heavilon Hall. Despite the tragedy, rebuilding the Bell Tower unified Purdue, under residing President Smart. The four bells, and four clocks are noteworthy features of the Tower, other than it's height of (160 ft). "The bells are a testament to the resilience of a campus that built a brand-new tower literally nine bricks higher than the one that burned down a year earlier," says John Collier, director of campus master planning (Hamon 2015).
